Chapter: The Prophet’s Statement: “A group from my nation will continue to prevail upon the truth.”

Yahya ibn Yahya narrated to us: Hushaym informed us, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from Abu Uthman, from Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas, who said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“The people of the West will continue to prevail upon the truth until the Hour is established.”

The Book of Tribulations and the Signs of the Hour

Chapter: The Conquests That the Muslims Will Achieve Before the Appearance of the Dajjal

Nafi‘ ibn ‘Utbah reported:

We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during a military expedition. A group of people came to the Prophet ﷺ from the direction of the West, wearing woollen garments. They met him near a hillock. They were standing while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting.

I thought to myself: “I should go and stand between them and him, lest they assassinate him.”

Then I thought: “Perhaps he is having a private conversation with them.”

So I approached them and stood between them and him. I memorized four statements from him, which I can count on my hand. He ﷺ said:

“You will fight against the Arabian Peninsula, and Allah will enable you to conquer it. Then you will fight against Persia, and Allah will enable you to conquer it. Then you will fight against the Romans, and Allah will enable you to conquer them. Then you will fight against the Dajjal, and Allah will enable you to defeat him.”

Nafi‘ then said:

“O Jabir, we do not believe that the Dajjal will appear until the Romans have been conquered.”

The Beginning of the Book of the Great Battles

Chapter: What Has Been Reported Concerning the Great Battles with the Romans

Al-Nufayli narrated to us: ‘Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us: Al-Awza‘i narrated to us, from Hassan ibn ‘Atiyyah, who said:

Makhul and Ibn Abi Zakariyya went to Khalid ibn Ma‘dan, and I went with them. He narrated to us from Jubayr ibn Nufayr concerning the truce.

Jubayr said:

“Let us go to Dhu Mikhbar, a man from among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ.”

We went to him, and Jubayr asked him about the truce. He said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:

“You will make a secure peace treaty with the Romans. Then you and they will fight together against an enemy behind you. You will be victorious, take spoils of war, and return safely. You will then return until you camp in a meadow with hills. A man from among the Christians will raise the cross and say, ‘The cross has triumphed.’ A Muslim man will become angry and break it. At that point, the Romans will betray the treaty and gather their forces for the Great Battle.”

Mu’ammal ibn al-Fadl al-Harrani narrated to us: Al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us: Abu ‘Amr narrated to us, from Hassan ibn ‘Atiyyah, with this same narration, adding:

“The Muslims will rush to their weapons and fight. Allah will honour that group with martyrdom.”

However, Al-Walid narrated the report from Jubayr, from Dhu Mikhbar, from the Prophet ﷺ.

Abu Dawud said:

“It was also narrated by Rawh, Yahya ibn Hamzah, and Bishr ibn Bakr, from Al-Awza‘i, in the same manner as ‘Isa narrated it.”
