Events of Ceuta

What we are witnessing in the events of Ceuta, with women and children rushing toward the unknown and risking their lives in search of a better future, is not merely a passing crisis. Rather, it is a warning that calls for reflection and a return to Allah. Allah Almighty says:

“And We will surely let them taste the lesser punishment before the greater punishment, so that they may return.”

He also says:

“And We have already sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muhammad]; then We seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps they might humble themselves [to Allah].”

The greatest calamities are not poverty alone, unemployment alone, or difficult living conditions alone. The greatest calamity is being distant from the religion of Allah and losing faith and the true purpose of life. Whoever makes the Hereafter his greatest concern, Allah will relieve him of the worries of this world. Allah grants worldly wealth to those whom He loves and those whom He does not love, but He grants true religion only to those whom He loves.

The purpose of religion is not merely to serve as a means of solving worldly problems. However, when people learn honesty, trustworthiness, integrity, justice, and contentment, abandon oppression, corruption, and greed, and place their hopes in what is with Allah, their circumstances will undoubtedly improve.

They will then understand the true meaning of happiness and contentment. They will learn patience during hardship, acceptance of Allah’s decree, and steadfastness against oppression and tyranny through truth, justice, and lawful means.

It is a painful scene: women and children throwing themselves into the unknown and risking their lives, while a small privileged group enjoys wealth and budgets without genuine accountability, fair oversight, or a sufficient sense of responsibility toward the vulnerable.

Accountability and oversight, despite their necessity, will never be enough if the root of the problem is the collapse of values. It is impossible to place a police officer behind every member of society. The question then remains: who will watch the police officer himself when financial temptation becomes stronger in people’s hearts than religious and moral restraint?

Laws may prevent a person from wrongdoing when others are watching, but faith and a living conscience restrain him both in private and in public, and lead him to fulfil his trust even when there is no supervision.

Therefore, we renew the call to return sincerely to Allah, to pledge allegiance upon Islam, to follow the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, and to adhere to the Jama‘at al-Muslimeen and their Imam, "al mustaqwi billah" (who seeks strength through Allah), through a legitimate call based on knowledge, evidence, and clear explanation.

O Allah, rectify the condition of the Ummah and guide them to Your straight path.
